Camp He Ho Ha, here we come!

Bittersweet just got invited to participate in a Bluegrass Workshop in Canada! We'll play a short set the first night we're there and then lead classes to teach beginner/intermediate bluegrass players for the weekend. I'm so excited to get involved with young musicians and the trip to Canada (my first trip across the border) will really rock my world! I talked to Ron Mercer, the man in charge, last night a gave him a definate 'yes.' I also learned a few more things about the workshop that are very fun! They get all sorts of instructors to help lead groups and there will be a master fiddler that I'm stoked about meeting and learning from. We also talked about what groups we'd all lead and I get to do a fiddle class! What fun!

You can find out more about the event at http://www.bluegrassnorth.com/.

Winter Attire

Somebody dressed warmly for the farmers' market in Provo. I need a coat like Lisa's.

Alpaca Hat

I wish I had a hat like Danielle!

Lauren was very excited about the food at the farmer's market in Provo. This is her "excited" face. She may have to work on that one:)

Recording days begin again!

Today we started recording some rough takes of a few songs for a demo. We are all ready for Christmas and excited to get some gigs, but need something to pass out to interested parties. So, today we did three songs and had sooo much fun! In the past, we've taken so long to get the foundation of a song and have never really completed a project; but today that changed! It was great!!

Provo Farmers' Market

We did it again! On Saturday (October 11th), we played another show at the Provo Farmers' Market. If any of you were out during the early afternoon, you're probably thinking, 'why?' Well, we were thinking the same thing. Why were we so excited to play in the cold? Why didn't we wear eskimo-type coats? WHY! Well, besides the freeeeezing, we still had so much fun! Oh, and we've been so lucky to set up next to some REALLY great vendors! The first time we played (I wish I got his name or at least company info) the guy behind us clapped, yee-hawed and complimented us the whole time! He made it way more fun. This time, we were right next to a Belgium hot chocolate vendor - YUMMY! He was way fun, too.

Besides dropping my pick and all of us killing our hands (numb fingers, frets and fat, fat strings DO NOT go together well), I'd do it again. Thanks to Provo Farmers' Market!

Don't put the cue ball in your mouth!

While we were in Parowan, we stayed at the Days Inn - the only hotel in town... Anyhoo, they had a pool/billard table in the lobby and I wanted to play. I really don't know how... and had a hard time getting used to it.

Just looking at these two pictures, can you guess who won??

Besides the fact that I 'sunk' (I learned something) the 8 ball waaaay too early in the game, or the fact that I put the cue ball down more than any of my own balls, or the fact that Danielle put two of my balls and ALL of hers down... I still did pretty well...

Iron County Fair

This weekend we went to the Iron County Fair. We spent two days there and played two 30 minute shows. It was so much fun! Aside from getting kicked off stage (Friday) to make way for the cloggers, it went really well. The best part was the people we met. Joyce, Heather and the rodeo clown's wife (sorry :( I never caught your name) were the coolest ever! We also stayed to watch a few of the other acts. The Ukulele Ladies, Off The Cuff and the square dancers were so fun! It was great; I hope we get to go down again next year. :)

Breathe Right!

You can't tell very well, but Lisa's wearing a clear breathing strip. Her hubby got them for her because she has been struggling with breathing through her nose lately (cute!) and she sported one to our rehearsal this week. I didn't notice it at first, but then that was all I could see... Later during the practice, it would pop off and looked like the craziest protrusion from her nose!

Rehearsal Fun!

We're getting ready for a gig coming up at the end of August. We'll be just north of Cedar City playing at the Iron County fair. :) Learning new songs is stressful, but we're making it fun! This is our last rehearsal together for a while because Diane, Lisa and I are taking off for a few weeks. Considering we're killing ourselves on this new set, we can still keep it fun!

Here, Diane's laying down some fab banjo chords for our. . . not-so-fab . . . first try at some REALLY hard vocals! Run DMC - in da house! (I know, I'm as white as they come... tee hee!)

Someone has to be the bad guy - this time, it was Les' turn! (Oh, BTW, he's our new guitar player... not featured in any pictures.)

Danielle always makes fun of my because my fiddle's so small and my fingers are 'dainty' (I think she means sissy, but whatever) ... here's her impression of me. This picture was taken at the end of practice... when we were all goofy as all get out!

Aren't these new mics sweet!

Busy Weekend!

We're new, but we're already getting started! This weekend, we have sooo much planned. Thursday, we'll practice, like always, to polish our shows. Then, Friday we are scheduled to perform for the High Priest Social for the Orem North Stake. They are having us put together 20-30 minutes of high energy entertainment. I'm excited for that one because we're throwing in The Chicken Dance! Fun! Diane's excited for it because we get to try out our new microphones... they're wireless... yeah, we're that cool! :) Saturday's our busiest day. Danielle's got the Bug Show (VW Bugs on display... including two of hers) until 2pm... hopefully she'll take pictures. After that, we all go to the 4th (I think) annual Neighborhood Soiree (or swaray... for those of us who aren't French) put on by a group called Sentimental Journey. They are fabulous all-men group that sings a lot of acapella. They're very good with The Beach Boys songs. We'll put on 20-30 minutes of a show and sing something with those guys. That's sure to be a fun show, too.

Bloopers

Every photo shoot needs a pictures out of left field. This is one of many from our shoot. Danielle's mom was our photographer and our pictures were taken in Danielle's friends backyard next to the cherry tree (couldn't tell, could ya?), but one limb kept getting in the way. Danielle's mom broke it off, and it reminded me of a piece of mistle-toe... just the way it broke... but you can't tell from the picture... it just looks ... weird... But check out Lisa! She should be the focal point! :) :) :)

How interested are you?

Recently, someone told me that, while talking to me, they didn't feel that I was genuinely interested. She said, "Lauren, you have a horrible 'interested' face. I just want to walk away!" So, I changed it.

Lost and Found

This is how cool we (and by we, I really mean Lisa) are! Brick phones are back in style. You heard it from Bittersweet first! But, in order to be truely cool, you have to lose the back!
And then, when you find it, you have to attach it with rubber bands ... preferably the clear kind, but for an added bonus, duct tape!

Check out how cute Lisa and hubby are!! :) :) :)
